OpenAI Models Arrive in Google Cloud: GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna Now Available in Model Garden

On October 21, 2026, OpenAI and Google Cloud announced a partnership: OpenAI's latest models are becoming available directly in Model Garden — Google Cloud's catalog of AI models. This is a rare case of one of Google's biggest competitors in artificial intelligence coming onto its cloud platform.

Three models are being opened up to Google Cloud customers. GPT-6 Astra is designed for the most complex tasks: programming, computer control, professional work, and scientific research. GPT-6.1 Sol, according to Google, delivers nearly Astra-level performance but at a lower cost — for agentic programming and work tasks. GPT-6 Luna is a fast and economical model for everyday, high-volume scenarios.

The models are currently being deployed in private preview, with general availability planned for the coming weeks. OpenAI also announced that its models will soon appear in Google Antigravity and Gemini Agent, and that agentic Codex scenarios will become available in Model Garden.

The financial side matters for businesses: OpenAI models are purchased through Google Cloud Marketplace, so all costs land on a single Google Cloud bill, count toward existing cloud spending commitments, and are included in Flexible Savings Plans.

Google emphasizes data security. Customer prompts, context, and responses remain within their data perimeter and are not used to train base models. OpenAI models will run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure through isolated gateways, and every agent-model interaction is tied to an authenticated identity and recorded in a single audit log. Zero data retention and Confidential Compute options are promised to be added later.

According to Google, with this step Google Cloud becomes the only major cloud provider offering access to all three leading proprietary language models — alongside more than 200 first-party, third-party, and open models on a single platform.

"We aim to give customers a broad choice of models, including from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for each task," said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. OpenAI President Greg Brockman called the partnership an important step toward making the most powerful models and Codex available where customers already build their products. At the same time, OpenAI separately emphasized that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
